With Andy at the helm PFS has transformed from small organization operating out of a shared space in North Philadelphia to a staple in the Philadelphia culture scene, owning a theater in Center City (which provides a permanent administrative home to PFS and serves as a rental facility for the rest of Philadelphia’s cultural community) and operating another theater in Rittenhouse Square. The Philadelphia Film Festival, with Andy as a driving creative force, has become a top tier festival, featuring Academy Award winning films like La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, Arrival, Birdman, Black Swan, Sliver Linings Playbook and more.
Andy has a long history in the film industry, and through the Philadelphia Film Society he is able to create opportunities for diverse communities to experience film through initiatives that inspire, educate, challenge and entertain.
Andy sets the tone for the entire organization. He creates an inclusive, respectful environment that allows each person to work effectively in their various departments. PFS is able to invite students to free screenings, take films into underserved neighborhoods, offer free tickets to film events throughout the year and host the largest film festival in Philadelphia!
Andy has been working relentlessly for years to push PFS forward and share the power of worthwhile cinema with Philadelphia. His ability to never back down and to press forward when roadblocks arise is inspiring.
A donation of this size would allow PFS to continue free ticketing initiatives, free student screenings, free in-neighborhood screenings and more.
He sits in an office with all women and rises to that occasion as well! He deserves this award all around!
