Nancy Rigg is one of the co-founders of the Higgins and Langley Memorial and Education Fund. This organization is dedicated to raising awareness for the need for trained swiftwater rescue personnel around the globe.
Nancy began this organization after a personal tragedy.
Nancy's fiancee was swept away in the Los Angeles River while trying to rescue a young boy. Nancy saw the need for trained personnel to deal with these situations. Her tenancity was instrumental in the formation of one of the first swiftwater rescue teams in the country, in Los Angeles.
She has been instrumental in the formation of many such teams around the country.
Nancy is also the facilitator of a drowning support organization designed to help families of drowning tragedies.
Nancy is a freelance writer and dedicated much of her time and efforts in these critically important areas.
The Higgins and Langley Awards are a recognition of excellence in the area of swiftwater rescue around the country.
